Well, this isn't about spirits haunting me, actually.
I just want to share my recent encounter with certain noisy brats, or should I say kids running around the neighborhood singing Christmas carols.
Before, back when I was one of those rioters, there was actually excitement. There is the thrill of singing to people. An adventure, I should say. But back then we prepared the songs we were to sing. There was a schedule, a list of songs we should sing. We practiced during the daylight hours and sing with pride at night.
Now, I don't have the old enthusiasm for caroling. Let's face it, I'm getting older by the second and I'm aware of each tick of the clock, unlike when I was a kid who only cared about the goodies during Christmas time. Anyway, I still do love listening to the sweet carols on the radio. They bring back such memories of the old traditions. But for the past few nights, I start cringing away from the window when the kids start their singing. And their singing voice is not really a factor. It is tradition to give an "aguinaldo" to carolers but you'd have second thought at times. Specially when the kids shout at the top of their voices without even thinking of what they are singing.
I ask, are there any more decent kids who knows the right lyrics to Christmas carols? I mean, they seem to just make fun at the words, changing the lyrics when they forget the correct ones or simply just to suit them or support their humor.
The songs were composed to celebrate the gaiety of the season and it just pains me to hear such mockery....
